Bar Shacterman is a Northern Californian ceramic sculptor with a diverse international background. Born in Odessa, Russia, his family immigrated to Israel when he was very young. There, he received training at the Academy of Art in Tel Aviv. After travelling through Europe, India and an apprenticeship in Japan, the artist and his family settled on the West Coast, United States.
He says of his art “the images, experience, fascinations that are my life move through me into something new. What I love most about the process is that it takes me to a different dimension – a place that I haven’t visited yet – technically and conceptually.” His art is largely inspired by traditional Japanese clay work and contemporary clay artists Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner and Rudy Autio.
Shacterman has shown work at numerous galleries throughout Northern California, including the Blueline Gallery in Roseville where he received an honorable mention, the 2010 Ceramics Annual of America in San Francisco, and the Valley Sculpture Artists show in Sacramento where he received best in show.
