Robert Arneson
Robert Arneson (1930 -1992) is one of the founding fathers of American ceramic sculpture. In the early 1960's, Arneson created raucous good-humor sculptures with political and social commentaries, which marked one of the most profound art movements -- California Funk. Arneson later on brought ceramics into the realm of art, adding drawings, paintings, and sculptures that related to current events.
Unlike other contemporary works, Arneson's artwork made a statement that was monumental in creating a permanent fixture in American art. John Natsoulas Gallery makes a special note that Arneson was deeply involved with the inception of the gallery. The gallery's profound admiration and respect for Arneson is exemplified by having Arneson's show as the first exhibition at the new gallery and center for the arts. Within a year, a library will be established to commemorate Arneson's ideals at the John Natsoulas Gallery and Center for the Arts.
