Born in Indiana and a graduate of Ball State University with a BS in Art Education, Chella came to Modesto in September 1956 and over the past 40 years she has taught art in Modesto’s five high schools, adult education programs, and privately.  At the present time she is retired and pursuing a career in the visual arts.

During the past five years, Chella has had work exhibited exclusively in eight one-woman shows.  In competitive shows she has won four awards in international shows, even more in national competitions and several regional and local exhibitions. In 2001, one of her small 8” x 10” ‘en plein air’ works was included in the Yosemite Renaissance XVI Show.  Corporations, such as Fireman’s Fund, Kaiser Permanente and private investors have acquired her work.  She was honored to be Artist-in Residence, Yosemite Valley in 2002.
